The best part of the 50th class reunion was reconnecting with our classmates. There were classmates from 18 states and one from south of the border. You traveled from the 4 corners of the US and everywhere in between. Here are the states: Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, Washington, Wyoming, and San Carlos Mexico. Wow! Thanks everyone. (If I've left out a state, please let me know).

We've had some questions regarding what to wear to the reunion events. We are suggesting casual and comfortable clothing. Hopefully, the weather in Pierre will cooperate and be a pleasant 72 degrees with little humidity and wind. But then again, it is South Dakota. See you in September!

Looking forward to seeing everyone at our 50th. I've reached a point in my life where reading obituaries is important. On Sunday June 28th a man named William Berguin III was listed. Reading thru it turns out he was owner of The Corral Drive In. Brings back memories of our PHS hang out days.

I finally figured out how this page works, and the other day when I was scrolling through the comments, I came upon the one from May, 2012, expressing condolences for my mother's death. That was a very kind and thoughtful gesture and now that I have seen it please let me extend my very belated thanks. It means quite a lot to me, and shows me once again that Riggs High friends are the very best. I am very much looking forward to the chance to see everyone at the reunion. See you soon! Bob Brown

I can't tell if I am the first to comment on the reunion, or if I am just too inept to be able to find the others! I hope everyone shows up for the 50th. It has been a very eventful 50 years for all of us, so there is a lot of catching up to do. Let's make this the greatest 50th reunion ever, just like our class was the greatest ever to graduate from Riggs High!

Please help spread the word for our good friends in the Riggs High Class of 1964: "CLASS OF ’64 FIFTIETH REUNION SEPTEMBER 19, 20, 21, 2014 - SAVE THE DATE Class of 64's 50th Reunion is rapidly approaching! The dates are September 19, 20, 21, here in Pierre. There is a home football game the night of the 19th and since Pierre won the AA State Football Championship last year (first time in history), the committee decided it would be fun to go as a group and support the home team. We can get together afterwards for either hot or cold toddies depending on the weather. We will be planning other activities also. We would like your input on what you would like to do and we will be meeting on Wednesday night to discuss ideas. Share this with other classmates as we don’t have all the email addresses and definitely don’t have up-to-date mailing addresses. We need your help to make this great event. Your committee, Mary Carter, Carmen Alleman, Wally Thomsen, Don Boyd, Charlie Walker, Dan Hall, Tom Rose, Galen Theobald, Jackie Zoller Shibley, Mike Pellerzi, Brent Dykstra and anyone else we can get involved. It's been a long time since I wrote here. I read about Kathy Specker's death and I was shocked. She was a good friend, a very nice and funny person. I remember her so well. Last year I was diagnosed with cancer and I went through a long treatment, both chemotherapy and radiation. I'm still struggling with the side effects of the chemo but for the moment I'm cancer-free. It's been terribly hard for me and my husband Dan, and for my family and friends in Colombia. I just wanted to say hi to those of you who still remember me and if you want to write a line to me I'd love to hear from you. Take care. Marta

Hey Colleran's & everyone - we're looking for people for the "Drag Euclid" - people from our past - like Mr. Lonbakken to ride in a car, the former Corral car hops, Johnny of the Standard Station - we may even have some fill ins for our Homecoming royalty ??. If anyone knows somebody from our "past" glory days, call them up and invite them to be part of this - be at the Legion on Sunday afternoon at 11 am and join us for the picnic. If you're looking for ways to help out on Saturday, we'll be at the American Legion making posters in the afternoon. Anyone that has memorabilia - bring that - I'm bringing a couple of scrap books - now, what will we find? & Wear your T-shirts! Looking forward to a great time!

From Dana: Hi Guys, Unhappily I won't be able to make it this time. We just had a big reunion in Vivian a couple weeks ago plus another get together in Pierre that same weekend. All 6 of my brothers and sisters and I made the trip back from Washington. It was greenest and prettiest I have ever seen Montana, & Wyoming, and of course South Dakota is always gorgeous. I am going to be back in NYC and DC visiting my kids and grand children during our class reunion. I'll be there for the great class of '65's 50th, which unfortunately will be here sooner than we might like it to be. I got the letter for the reunion while in Vivian so the strategy for sending it there worked. I am sorry to miss the golf tournament and other festivities. Thank you all for all the work you do organizing and planning the reunions. You definitely deserve some atta boys and atta girls for that. Take care and keep me posted. Dana

Just thought the class of '65 would want to know the following: On Sunday, June 20, Phil Hanson underwent a six hour surgery to repair a couple of arteries, an aortic one in the abdomen and another artery in the groin area, that burst while he was at a grandson's baseball game in Brandon. The doctors said he shouldn't have made it on to the ambulance since 65% of those people that have this happen to them never make it to the ambulance. They also said that 90% of those that make it to the hospital never make it through the operation so statistically he shouldn't have survived the operation. While on the operating table, another artery burst up by his lungs!!! But the good news is that Phil has survived all of this, is doing great, and looks like he will be going home on July 1st or 2nd! The doctors and nurses are calling Phil their miracle patient. Phil can be reached at pg7hanson@msn.com . Rich Shangreaux, Riggs High Class of '67

Dear Get Connected Team - Ducey, Thanks for your quick response and remembering me even though I did not graduate with you all. Cudos for Larry, you are so right, he does a wonderful job. I did my junior and senior years at, and graduated from Augustana Academy in Canton SD. It is a Lutheran school south of Sioux Falls. The school closed its doors a few years later and the State took it over for an alcoholic rehab facility for mainly Indians. I will scan my senior pic from the "Saga" and email it. My graduating class consisted of only 58 students. For classmates who don't remember me, maybe you remember my dad, Dr. Illig. He was the only M.D. eye doctor/surgeon in Pierre for many years and his office was across the street from the Pierre National Bank, next to Spargur's hardware store. When I look at the class pictures and see the guys with their cool heavy rim glasses, and the girls with their cat-eye specs, I cannot help but wonder how many originated from his eye clinic. It is wonderful to be in touch again after 40 years as I do remember so many of you.

Arno - Thanks for lurking. We remember you. We're glad you like the website. Larry Kleinschmidt, our webmaster and an official honorary member of the class of 65, is awesome! This site is his work. We did scan all the senior photos from the Gumbo. Click on Photo on the Main Menu. The Graduation Photos are the first menu item once you click on Photo. They are arranged alphabetically. Click on the photo itself and it will show you the name of the person. Check out the "now and thens" too. We'd like to hear from the rest of you lurkiloos.

I don't have a "Gumbo" because I did not graduate with you guys, I was at Riggs only as a sophomore and then moved to Canton SD. I did, however go to school with the class of '65 since seventh grade to end of 10th, or 4 years. It would be really nice if you put on the website the class pictures from the "Gumbo" so that others like me, too could see them to help refresh our memories. Perhaps the senior pictures pages scanned would be great. I really enjoyed lurking your site, brought back wonderful memories and reminded me of the value of having grown up in a small town and Capital at the same time. Your site is very good and I hope it will continue to give us all great pleasure. Arno Illig
